The rank and title of Staff Sergeant is a non-commissioned officer's rank. They often act as squad or platoon leaders in army organizations.
In New Republic Service Edit
Staff Sergeants in the New Republic Army usually represent soldiers who are on a rise through the ranks or are reaching the end of their careers. Younger soldiers who reach this rank within five to six years are worth noting; they're the individuals who will make the senior NCO ranks. Soldiers in their tenth service year at this rank are typically battle-hardened veterans, many of which decline promotion in order to remain in the thick of combat with their men.
